Schenn, Simmonds, and Voracek

The Philadelphia Flyers held a press conference today to introduce Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds, and Jakub Voracek.  Schenn and Simmonds were acquired from the Los Angeles Kings for Mike Richards.  Voracek was acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets in the Jeff Carter deal.

Flyers GM Paul Holmgren commenting on each of the new players said,”Brayden Schenn who at the time of the trade I publicly said that he is one of the top, if not, the top player outside of the NHL.  We are excited to have Brayden as part of our organization…Wayne is a rough and tumble, rugged winger who we think has some real upside in terms of offensive production.  So we look for some big things from Wayne…Jake is a big winger who just finished his 3rd season in the Columbus organization.  He averaged over 44 points in those 3 years.  We see there’s tremendous upside in Jake…We look forward to having these 3 young men in the Flyers’ line-up next year.”

Simmonds shrugged off the shoes they were brought in to fill.  “I don’t feel any added pressure.  I’m just going to come in and play my game…I go up and down the wall and take pucks to the net.  That’s what I’m good at and that’s what I’m going to stick to.”

On the new make-up of the team, he said, “I think we are very close (to winning the Stanley Cup).  We have great young players here with a couple of veteran leaders.  The three of us were brought in to help..I’m just excited to get started.”

The Flyers have brought in three young forwards to go along with veteran goalie Ilya Bryzgalov.  They will try and replace the offense lost with the departures of Jeff Carter and Mike Richards and be vital pieces in the Flyers’ pursuit of a championship.
