The Reading Royals came into today’s contest leading the Eastern Conference with a 28-12-2-3 record with 61 points.  Reading has a balanced attack led by Andrew Sarauer (11 goals, 19 assists), Chris Blight (9 goals, 20 assists), Yannick Riendeau (10 goals, 16 assists) and Casey Haines (12 goals, 10 assists).

In net are Ben Scrivens (9 wins and 3 losses with a 2.17 goals against average, .939 save percentage) and Michael Hutchinson (7-3-1, 2.88 goals against average, .916 save percentage).

For Trenton they are led by Jeff Prough (20 goals, 13 assists), Ryan Ginand (17 goals, 29 assists) and David Leaderer (4 goals, 18 assists).  In goal for the Devils it has been Jeff Lerg (6 wins 6 losses, 3.38 goals against average, .890 save percentage) and Shane Connelly (4-11-2-1, 3.31 goals against average and a .889 save percentage).

First Period Highlights:

Ryan Ginand shot from lower left circle save at 0:52 by Reading’s goalie Ben Scrivens.  Penalty on Brad Miller, Trenton at 3:55 (hooking).  After the power play was over a rebound goal was scored by Reading’s Brent Gallant after a shot by Louis Liotti from the left point at 6:27.

Jared Ross, Reading shoots over top of the net at 10:25 off a three-on-two rush.   11:35 open net tap-in goal from Devin Timberlake after a goal mouth scramble to make it 2-0 Reading .  Trenton’s Darcy Zajac breakaway stopped by Scrivens ten seconds later.

Trenton Trevor Kell scores from mid-right circle after Reading turnover in neutral zone at 14:00 to cut the margin to 2-1.  Kell shot in close saved by Ben Scrivens at 15:55.  Penalty 16:57 Reading’s Ryan Donald for roughing.  Penalty at 19:55 Trenton‘s Taylor Vichorek roughing.

Second Period Highlights:

Jared Ross shot from blue- line scores on power play 27 seconds in.  Reading scores again when Todd Perry goes upper right corner from the left circle at 51 seconds to make it 4-1.  Trenton replaces Jeff Lerg in net with Shane Connelly.  At 3:15 Brad Miller taps in rebound from shot from the point to bring Trenton back to 4-2.

Two big saves by Ben Scrivens from in close at 8:36.  Trenton has good pressure for almost a minute in the Reading defense zone.  Penalty Reading’s Robert Slaney for tripping at 10:19.  11:51 great glove save by Ben Scrivens on Trenton’s Ryan Ginand when he cuts in front of the net.

Ryan Ginand scores his eighteenth goal of the season off a rebound into an open net at 18:06 to cut the deficit to 4-3.

Third Period Highlights:

1:58 Trenton Matt Vokes shot pad save.   Trenton’s David Leaderer shot off a face-off win back to him at the blue-line, save, rebound cleared at 9:10.  Big pad save on Jeff Prough at 10:50 off a right wing rush. Pretty quick period with little stoppages and limited chances by both teams.  Trenton pushed the play more though.  Darcy Zajac shot saved by Ben Scrivens at 17:20.  Trenton pulled the goaltender with 1:19 left in regulation.  Reading holds on for the 4-3 victory.
