It’s Trade Deadline Day in the NHL

Published on February 28th, 2011

Today is the trade deadline and many of the teams in the NHL will be scrambling to acquire that one or two players that they feel will put them in a better position to go far in the playoffs.  Usually these deals do not pay off but most teams are willing to take that gamble.

Nick Boynton

The Flyers have so far made two recent moves.  They traded for forward Kris Versteeg from the Toronto Maple Leafs and claimed defenseman Nick Boynton off of waivers from the Chicago Blackhawks.  In today’s NHL where every move must take into account the salary cap, the Flyers are limited by financial considerations.  They must clear cap space to add any new player.  So it seems unlikely the Flyers will make any other trades on this deadline day but you never know.

There have been some rumors floating around about defenseman Adam Foote of the Colorado Avalanche being available.  He would fit in nicely with the Flyers with the defensive corps somewhat ailing as Chris Pronger and Sean O’Donnell are on the mend.  He is a crafty veteran who has won the Stanley Cup and certainly knows how to play Flyer hockey.  Stay tuned.  Trade deadline is at 3pm.
